Gary is BuffaloEagle is Lone Star Scouter
He is an outdoor enthusiast who discovered this passion while a BSA Leader when his son was in Cub Scouts. Now that his son is an Eagle Scout, BuffaloEagle continues to be an active member of BSA in Sam Houston Area Council, Big Cypress District as the Scoutmaster for Troop 483 & Venture Crew 483, Asst. Adviser in Cypress, Texas, an OA Brotherhood member in Colonneh Lodge 137, a member of the Bobwhite patrol from Wood Badge SR-463, and is a BSA Certified Instructor for Rock Climbing, Rappelling, Powder Horn 2009, and a trained C.O.P.E. facilitator.
The purpose of this Blog is to provide information for scouting; offer gear review; afford an outlet for his warped sense of humor and a maintain a chronological log of his outdoor experiences and adventures.

Colleen is Dual Scout Mom
She didn’t know it, but it turns out she too is an outdoor enthusiast. It took her a little longer to discover this passion. She knew she was addicted to scouting, but it wasn’t until her younger son moved up to Boy Scouts and she went on her first Boy Scout Campout in March of 2007 that she figured out why her husband never complained about camping. It’s a whole different world.
Since that time, this parent of a Life Scout and a Star Scout has become an Assistant Scout Master with Troop 483, completed Powder Horn 2009, survived the C.O.P.E. Facilitator training, (almost) conquered her fear of falling to be a Climbing Instructor, and most recently, become the Crew Adviser for Crew 483. Her goals for 2009 are to become a COPE Director, kiss her fear of falling goodbye once and for all, and begin seeing the world with the Crew.
You’ll find her posting on the home page with her random pondering, updating the Troops FAQ page, and Venture Crew 483 page from time to time about the adventures of the Crew.
“The Boss”, as she’s commonly known in the troop. She got that name because she is the one who keeps us all, scouts and adults, in order. First and foremost, she (with her husband Mike) is a proud parent of an Eagle Scout, recipient of a Wood Badge, has been in our troop for 8 years, serves the troop as an Asst Scout Master , a BSA certified climbing instructor, a BSA certified COPE facilitator, Powder Horn 2009 and a award winning dutch oven chef, long term camp planner and instructor, and counselor for a number of merit badges. She doesn’t stop there though. She’s also the committee chair for the venture crew and serves at the district level as the Camping Chair.
When she posts a recipe, know its a great one and you should give it a try. When she posts advice on any of her many many positions, listen closely. She knows of what she speaks.
Hi mister Eagle:
In response to your requst about how to get a signed copy of my ghost story book, I’d like to add one thing to the comments on HoustonScouts…
Cypress isn’t so far from here. I would consider doing a story program for your troop sometime if you like.

Howdy Gary,
I’m home with pneumonia. Got sick this weekend and am coughing blood today. Sorry I missed the Sunday Court of Honor. I’m not feeling well or I’d have tried to call earlier. Likely to be out the rest of this week.

Howdy gang – thanks very much for posting the recent news articles re: our kids’ service projects in Burnet and Pflugerville. As an Eagle Scout from Troop 1177 (Foundry UMC, Jersey Village), it’s always great to connect with SHAC. If there is anything I can go to help in the future, please let me know. I’d also love to send you some camp promotion material in the future, if you’re so inclined.

Hi guys
Long time no see, since Rimers at least. Just saw the pictures from E-rock, from you guys. We have a bunch of new scouts join, and we are headed to Erock Feb. for them to try. Question what area were you guys at in Erock? We’ll have a bunch of the older boys too, and planning for them to try a different arena, so I’m trying to get some ideas. by the way we are headed back to Rimers in April.
Hey Collen, Robin.
Darrin and Tom says Hi.

Good morning,
To introduce myself, I am Steve Silbiger and I write a weekly Scouting News information email that is sent to 150 Scouters primarily in the Western Region. It is called Adviser’s Corner.
I met Alvin Townley , author of Legacy of Honor, at a recent Eagle Scout event and have learned that his second book Spirit of Adventure: Eagle Scouts and the making of America’s Future will be launched or released on May 12, 2009.
Because I truly believe in Alvin, this book, and would like to do everything possible to generate pre orders for the book through Amazon.com or Barnesandnoble.com, I have a request.
Would you be willing to promote the pre order of the book in an edition of Scouting News?
The benefits of generating a lot of buzz (and sales) would be to make every effort to get the book on the NY Times Best Sellers List. This would create a lot of positive promotion for Scouting and Eagle Scouts as the Eagle Scout Badge is prominently featured on the cover.
Why Pre order?
If you enjoyed Legacy of Honor, you will really enjoy Alvin’s second book.
Get a DISCOUNT and be an early adopter/ First on your Block to own your own copy
You can help propel the book to the New York Times Best Sellers List and promote the positive image of Eagle Scouts and the BSA
The book is perfect for gift giving to fellow and future Eagle Scouts, Scout Leaders, camp staff members, and people interested in learning more about Scouting’s impact in the United States – it’s a great way to recognize Scout volunteers at all levels.
Who do you know that would appreciate a copy of this book?
• Friends and Family members
• Eagle Scouts
• Scout Leaders
• Scout Professionals
• Parents of Scouts or Eagle Scouts
• Camp staff members
• People who purchased Legacy of Honor
How to pre-order the book (Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com):
Spirit of Adventure: Eagle Scouts and the Making of America’s Future
