Revenge is a Dangerous thing. It is best to never seek revenge, and sometimes it takes a lot of self-control to do so, but people are always better off when they learn to forgive and to let go of vengeful thoughts and actions. The following story illustrates how revenge most often comes back to do more harm.
A man owned great orchards and acres of fields all ready for harvest, but as he walked over his farm every day, he noticed little insignificant things like an ear of corn, or several stalks of grain that were missing. So he set a trap, and by the following morning he had his culprit – a rat with a long hairy tail.
Instead of disposing of the rat in the usual way, he sought revenge on the creature and lit its tail on fire. The rat escaped from the man’s hands and took off running through the dry, ripe fields and orchards. The gentle winds fanned the flames, and soon the entire property caught on fire. Everything the man owned was destroyed – all because he sought revenge.
Two wrongs will never make a right, and seeking revenge is adding a wrong to a wrong. Never does a man stand so tall as when he forgoes revenge and dares to forgive an injury.
