Well, since my real valentine is working a long weekend, laying a floor in an office building, I have to be more creative this go round. Instead of going out with my husband, I’m choosing my son as my date tonight. He and I have been working on spending a lot more time together lately, outside of scouts. My older son never took issue with the amount of effort I put into volunteering. But once in a while, the younger son will ask why I always have to be the one doing everything. Of course, I immediately remind him there are others as dedicated. I always lose that argument, because he counter-reminds me that they aren’t his parent. OK OK… I get it. He misses the one on one part. So, he works out with me no less than once a week now and, like I said, I picked him for my date tonight.
I guess the not so hidden message here is… We should spend non-scout quality time with our kids too. Oh, and don’t feel too bad for my older son in this. He, and one of his best scout mates, will be watching a different movie at the same time.
