I, Colleen, am a scouterholic. It has been two days since my last meeting.
To set the stage, I’ll fill you in on the background of what has led to this confession. I’ve been nursing, what I’ll lovingly call the Houston Crud (aka a cold caused by daily shifts between 40 & 80 degree highs) since before Christmas. With that in mind, I’ve been pacing myself all month, knowing I would have a really high energy weekend this holiday passing. I, along with my co-climbing instructors, Gary and Robin, was to go and help another troop on a climb with our Crew along to help. The trick here… we somehow confused ourselves on the date and the trip isn’t for another two weeks.
So this week started calm enough on Monday night with Robin and I going to greet the other troop. She and I both fought back our individual hacks (she’s been fighting it since November), to tell them about safe climbing, gear, and what a great time we are all going to have. I’ve even challenged them to a knot typing competition. :: note to self – PRACTICE :: We followed that by going to Round Table two nights ago where we gleened great backpacking advice from the scout master of Troop 901.
Here’s where it gets a little twitchy for me. Troop 483 is away on their own camp out this weekend. While they are off practicing Wilderness Survival, I thought it would be wiser for me to remain home this time and work on defeating this cough rather than camping in 40 degree nights.
This brings me to my confession. I’m in awful whiney shape. I find myself cranky, pouty, and not sure what to do with myself. I know it was smartest for me not to go, but it is absolutely killing me that my husband and son are camping (the older one stayed home with me) and having all that scout fun and I’m stuck here.
What to do? Quick! Give me guidance and keep me from my temptation to drive out there in the morning.

Hello, I’m Gary and I’m a scouterholic and I working on the 12 step program as well…………….
[...] My Troop got back from a weekend campout today a little after 12. By the time all the Scouts were picked up and the Troop gear had been dropped off, I was pretty tired but also pretty excited. We have a lot of really great things happening in our Troop and a lot of cool activities coming up. So, instead of going home, showering and napping, I decided to pop into work and do a bit of Scout “work.” Hi, my name is Gregg and I’m a scouterholic. [...]
