Everyone gets something different out of camping. For some, it’s the relaxation, others, the adventure, while there are those who look at each campout as a learning experience. To me, the best part of camping is bonding with other people while enjoying nature.
Our scouts see each other for about an hour and a half on average each week. Correct? Sure, if you only count Monday nights. But when they camp together, epsecially on long term campouts, it gives them an opportunity to bond and solidify their relationships as fellow scouts. They get to share in their enjoyment of scouting without the outside negative influences such as classmates who have missed out on the utterly cool opporunities in scouting.
The picture below is of many of the boys in our troop who are enjoying the winter camp campfire together. You’ll notice that this isn’t any set of kids. It’s all the boys, regardless of rank or age. Bonding is a powerful tool in the success of a boy scout.
