Regardless of the scouting unit level, a pack, troop, or crew all need those people behind the scenes who take on the business portion of the scouts. More often than not, we think of our committee chairs, and the members that sit with them, to be the serious parents in the troop. They’re the ones that make the budgetary decisions, debate the needs of the unit, and push back when the program side wants to go on a buying spree. That’s ok though. We need that. There’s really cool stuff out there, and lets face it, those of us on the program side are like kids in a candy store. Someone has to calm our needs for instant gratification. At times.
However, don’t kid yourself. Even the most guideline focused committee chairs have their fun side. Take ours. Get Barry out on a campout and you find out he’s just as much a kid as the rest of us. He’s your go to guy for all things plant life and a must have on wilderness survival trips. But when these things are finished, and he cuts loose, this father of one of our soon to be Eagle Scouts is a real clown.
That’s it! Embrace your inner 12 year old boy Barry!

I always knew Barry had an inner 12 year old in him. Glad to see it come out after all these years.
