This scout law element couldn’t have come during a more appropriate week. We always tell our kids that Christmas is more about giving than receiving, but do tell them how wonderful it can be for them to be helpful? Let’s all remember to be helpful during this holiday season and not get so caught up in the gift part of it that we forget what its really all about. It is the perfect opportunity to look around, figure out what we can do to help one another have a better life.
It doesn’t even need to be something big. Some simple, much appreciated ways to be helpful are to wash the dishes or clear the table without being asked. Helping your spouse gather their camping gear for a campout is always met with a warm response. See what I mean? Don’t stop there. It goes along with the theory of Pay It Forward. The elders at your church would probably love some help preparing for the Christmas service. Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is offer a helpful and encouraging word.
