Tonight our Troop participated in the area’s Troop Fair. There were several Troop’s, Crew’s and Ship’s. We had Pictures of our outdoor activities, info for parents and leaders. Our best recruiting tool we had tonight was some lengths of rope and our Scouts. Our Scouts talked to probably between fifty and seventy five Webelos and parents tonight. Our adult leaders and myself talked to the boys and adults also, promoting our Troop.

The troop fair gives the Webelos a chance to visit with Scouts from various Troops in one place, which gives them an idea which Troops they would like to visit and learn more about. Not bragging,,,,,,,well yea I am, I watched and listen to our Scouts teach knots while talking about their Troop. It’s great to see the pride and Scout Spirit they show while describing what it’s like being a Boy Scout. Great job guys, and you made your Scoutmaster proud tonight.

Just came across your blog and saw the piece about the Rising Star District Troop Fair. Our district is trying to create precisely that type of event to improve our Webelos-to-Scout success rate. Would you please provide me information about the Fair or put me in touch with the person with your district who coordinated it? Thanks and keep up the great work!

John,
The district chair for this gets access to a local middle school and signs up Troops, Crew’s and Ships to attend starting in December at the Roundtable. The Fair is advertised to packs at roundtable, phone calls and e-mails. first and second year webelos and non scouts are encouraged to attend to meet the units. This is a great recruiting effort which helped our Troop recieve 17 new Scouts this year that we met last year. For more info and contacts feel free to email me at buffaloeagle62@yahoo.com .
